Rights And Liabilities Of Parties
About Lesson

The parties to a bill of exchange are the drawer, the drawee, and the payee.

  1. The Drawer: The drawer is the person who issues the bill of exchange and is usually the creditor or the person who is owed money. The drawer orders the drawee to pay a certain sum of money to the payee at a future date.

  2. The Drawee: The drawee is the person or entity on whom the bill of exchange is drawn. They are usually the debtor or the person who owes money to the drawer. The drawee is ordered by the drawer to pay the specified amount to the payee at the specified date.

  3. The Payee: The payee is the person or entity to whom the payment is to be made. They are the recipient of the amount specified on the bill of exchange and are entitled to receive the payment from the drawee on the specified date.

In some cases, the drawer and the payee may be the same person or entity, and the bill of exchange may be payable to the order of the drawer. This means that the drawer can endorse the bill of exchange to another party, who can then present it to the drawee for payment.

It’s important for all parties involved in a bill of exchange to carefully review and understand the terms of the agreement before signing. If you have any questions or concerns, it’s advisable to seek the advice of a legal professional.
